Newborn Otters' Cute Little Noises Are Enough to Make Anyone Obsessed

Otter pups are incredibly tiny when born, typically weighing around 3 to 5 pounds , and we always knew these babies were cute, but we had no idea how cute until we saw a clip posted on August 22.

Check out the following video posted by the TikTok account for @Otterparadise to see what we mean.

We had no idea baby otters sound like a cross between newborn kittens and little chirping birds! This just makes these precious sea mammals all the cuter!

We aren't sure why these babies aren't with their mamas, and it would have to be multiple mamas because  otters usually birth one pup at a time. One TikTok user noted this and commented, "I don’t think otters usually have litters? Where’s their mommy?" Otters are social animals, and pups often interact with other otters in the group, including other pups, but we still wanna know where the moms are!

Here's a video of one mama tending to some babies the same account posted last night:

A TikTok user named @MrE asks the question now on all of our minds with, "is it legal to own otters? Asking for a friend!"

According to the Pet Zealot, otters are legal to own in 18 states, including California, Florida and New York. The World Population Review also reports, In all states where otters are legal to be kept as pets, the only species that can be owned is the Asian-clawed otter. Because Asian otters are not marine animals, they are not federally protected. Sea otters on the other hand are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which makes them federally illegal to own.

Welp, guess we are adding one more pet to our pet ownership bucket list! Now we just need to move to a state where they are legal!
