Sea Lords

The Sea Lords are a powerful coastal force. Their expertise in trade, navigation, and naval warfare give them a unique advantage. Though originally Olaran’s privateer navy, they have raised the banner of their ancient realm of Throi, and are prepared to defend their region on the land and sea.

Sea Lord History?

It was Alirion, Olaran’s first king, whose campaign against the Sea Lords of Throi taught him the importance of a strong naval force. The Sea Lords were originally raiders from the west that settled along the coast of Throi. Years before the formation of Olaran, they occupied the coastal cities of Throi and spread into all the land to the north of the Grimmock Mountains. As their numbers grew, they furthered their conquest to surrounding territories with their fast-strike capabilities. On the open sea they were impossible to defeat. King Alirion was only able to bring them to the treaty table after earning their respect through brilliant tactical maneuvers that trapped the Sea Lord’s fleet in the Coldfell River. He allied himself with the daring raiders by appointing the Earl of Throi the First Sea Lord of Olaran, granting him authority to hire private warships and warriors to uphold the king’s rule on land and sea. When Randar, the last king of Alirion’s bloodline, died, the Sea Lords reverted to their original realm, raising once again the banner of Throi. They now defend their ancient realm with ferocity and determination - unwilling to be brought under an outsider’s rule ever again.

Their Culture and Look

Emblem: The Trident

Culture: Aesthetically inspired by the style and equipment of the Varangian guard (elite Norse, Rus, and Anglo-Saxon warriors in the service of the Byzantine Emperor), the Sea Lords take on many of the traits of eastern European style medieval armor and dress. Thus lamellar, baggy trousers, and lots of cloth accents are key. Pointed helmets and boots are also worn by many Sea Lords, and recurve bows are as common as longbows in their ranks. Culturally, they draw inspiration from the Byzantines, Kievan Rus, and Anglo-Saxons. Their ship structure and command system is taken from the British Royal Navy during the Age of Sail.

Equipment: Their colors are sea-blue with navy blue, brown, gray, and tan with white and silver accents. (Details on colors in sections below). They are essentially the medieval equivalent to Navy SEALs or Marines, used to defend the coasts and maritime trade. If they wear armor, they wear chainmail, brown/tan leather armor, steel lamellar, steel splinted leather armor and padded gambesons. They wear light nasal helms, ocular and other norse/byzantine type helmets.

*** Please note that players MAY NOT wear the primary colors of another faction***

Follow the Leader

From exiled son of a foreign chieftain, to Sea Lord captain, to Commmodore of the Sea Lord fleet… Hvitserk Yngarvson’s story has been one of skilled leadership and determination. Now he leads the Sea Lord navy in its greatest fight yet - a fight for the very survival of their nation of Throi.

Andar Brimwulf originally hailed from a far northern region of the Barrens, and served as a privateer during the end of the war with Goltha. After the war ended, he continued on this path in foreign waters without a letter of marque, until eventually rejoining the Sea Lords to fight for a free and independent Throi. Promoted to Captain of the Atalanta, he now serves as the Flank Commander to the Sea Lords and is Hvitserk's right-hand man.

Out of game, Daniel hails from New England and has been attending Weekend Warrior since 2021.
