Trio of baby otters make debut at Stone Zoo in Massachusetts
An adorable trio of baby otters debuted at Stone Zoo in Massachusetts on Wednesday, which just happened to be World Otter Day.
The three North American river otter kits were born in late February and their births were the first for the zoo, which is part of Zoo New England.
The kits weighed around 4 ounces at birth and will ultimately grow to be between 10 and 30 pounds. They were also born blind and toothless, so they needed lots of care early on from first-time mother, Dunkin.
Zoo New England said the otter family will have access to its outdoor habitat at Stone Zoo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Whether the kits choose to go outside or not is up to them since it's a brand-new experience, but zoo staff members are hoping they will begin to spend more time outside each day.
The three kits all appeared to enjoy the water with their mom on Wednesday.
