A life cycle of a frog worksheet for young learners

Teach learners all about the different stages of a frog's life using this life cycle of a frog worksheet. It enables learners to make a concertina booklet which they can keep. Once downloaded, you can print as many copies as you need for your class. The clever design means that learners can fold the booklet up so that it looks like a frog.

We've also made this resource available to download as a super-eco black and white version, which allows you to save ink without compromising the design of the sheets. This is ideal when you're printing lots of copies.

To use these sheets, you can hand them out and let learners carefully cut them out with supervision, or you can cut out each concertina booklet and hand them out. The learners can colour them in, fold them up and use them as a handy reference when learning about life cycles. We've included instructions on the sheet to help you out.

How does this resource help learners?

Building this life cycle of a frog worksheet into a lesson plan helps you effectively teach children about a frog's life cycle through a combination of easy-to-understand texts and engaging illustrations. Children will discover new vocabulary, learn how amphibians develop, and discuss how they fit into nature's cycle.

While colouring in the concertina booklet, learners are also working on their fine motor skills. It also gives them an opportunity to chat about life cycles while they colour. This activity is great as a follow-up to going through the information as a class. You could use a resource like this Life Cycle Of A Frog Hotspots interactive image, which you can present to the class. When you hover over different parts, information appears to tell learners more about that stage of the life cycle.

We also have this Frog Life Cycle Resource Pack, which is full of different activities that can be used to reinforce knowledge on the subject. From writing frames to games, find it all in this easy-to-download pack.

What is the life cycle of a frog?

Frogs are amphibians, which means that they live in water for most of their life. But they can also hop on land, to find new ponds to live in.

Frogs lay eggs, and the egg is the first stage of the life cycle. Frogs' eggs are called frogspawn, and they're laid in a pond or body of water. When they hatch, they become tadpoles that live under the water. At first, the tadpoles won't move around much, as they're feeding on the nutrition from the yolk of the egg still. But as they get older, they start to move around, and eat vegetation found in the water.

In just 14 weeks, the tadpoles will become fully grown frogs. They will begin to grow legs and their tail will gradually shrink. In this in-between stage, they are known as froglets. Once their gills have healed, they will become a tiny frog, ready to eat insects and grow up.
