UConn women’s basketball won in blowout fashion in Toronto for Aaliyah Edwards’ homecoming, beating the Toronto Metropolitan Bold 111-34 in front of a sold-out crowd at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Aaliyah Edwards had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds in her home country. The three true freshmen combined for 59 points: KK Arnold and Qadence Samuels set career-highs with 21 points and 18 points, respectively, while Ashlynn Shade hit the 20-point mark for the second-straight game with 20 points.
Paige Bueckers played 21 minutes and put up 11 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals without recording a single turnover or foul. Nika Mühl chipped in eight assists.
UConn jumped out to an 18-0 lead, were up 68-9 at the half and ultimately won by 77 — the seventh-widest margin of victory in program history. The Huskies led from start-to-finish.
Fellow Canadian and UConn alum Kia Nurse attended the game.
The Bold are a member of Canada’s U Sports and agreed to play the Huskies after their original opponent, Pitt, backed out after a coaching change.
UConn is now off for the next 10 days for Christmas. The Huskies will return to action on New Year’s Eve against Marquette at the XL Center.
