A Russian MMA fighter nicknamed 'Popeye' has begun surgery to remove petroleum jelly he had used to pump up his biceps.
Kiril Tereshin, 23, went viral for his freakishly oversized biceps but he has started a procedure to decrease his biceps after being warned he could die or face amputation if he failed to take out all of the fake muscles.
Tereshin had claimed he injected synthol into his biceps though surgeon Dmitry Melnikov has revealed that he actually pumped cheap petroleum jelly instead.

His partner, Alana Mamaeva, a leading campaigner for victims of botched plastic surgery, talked him into going under the knife to remove the risk threatening muscles from his biceps.
Dr. Melnikon of Sechenov Moscow State Medical University opened up about the effects of Petroleum jelly.

"Petroleum jelly saturates the muscles, under skin tissues and the skin itself," he said.
"All that has to be removed, but we need to keep the vein, nerves and other functions of the limb.
"Petroleum jelly is not designed for injection, only external application.
"Kirill injected about three litres into each arm. It saturated the muscle tissues, blocked blood flow.

"As a result the tissue dies and gets replaced with a scar which is as tough as a tree, you can even knock on it and hear the usual sound. We have removed all this. He had high fever, strong pain, and weakness.
"Petroleum jelly affects the whole body, kidneys in particular. I think Kirill did not fully realise the consequences of what he had been doing."
Tereshin requires more surgeries to reconstruct his biceps. He also made headlines last month after tapping out during an MMA fight against Oleg Mongol.
