Picked up a piece of live rock and it had this on it

The others had some plays and mushrooms on them…

is this a sponge or coral?

it is sitting in my fuge right now, I need to clean the acrylic, sorry for the poor quality photos

Haven’t touched it yet lol don’t want to damage it more than it was during drive home (was poorly boxed)

Looks like an encrusting coral of some type. Possibly blue ridge coral? I've seen it grow like that before it starts growing vertical towers.

Or more likely, if this is Caribbean live rock, that this might actually be Fire coral (Millepora sp.)

See these pics of fire coral for comparison. Photos look more yellow because of my diving camera. Honestly, if I was a betting man, and this is gulf harvested live rock, I'd say it's fire coral.

If this is Pacific Rock, or formerly dry rock that someone traded in, I'd lean more towards Leptoseris or a similar encruster with inconspicuous polyps

It is in the great beyond of the rock work, hopefully a friendly lol

and as long as it doesn’t reproduce to problem levels I don’t plan on keeping tons of coral and none will be expensive (I say that knowingly lying to myself long term)
