Last week, the UNFoundation hosted an interactive discussion for United Nations Member States on the growing threat of #AntimicrobialResistance ahead of the UN High-Level Meeting on #AMR later this year. The meeting was co-sponsored by the Co-chairs of the Group of Friends of AMR, the World Health Organization as host of the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat, and the UN Foundation. MSH’s AMR and GHSA expert Dr. Mohan P. Joshi, MD, MSc, MBBS was a lead discussant in the meeting, which focused on the #OneHealth approach to combating #AMR. The One Health approach is a holistic framework that recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to more effectively address #AMR and preserve the effectiveness of antimicrobial medicines. “Much has been achieved globally and nationally in terms of recognizing the criticalness of the One Health approach for preventing, detecting and quickly responding to health security issues, including AMR,” said Dr. Joshi. “The time has come to capitalize on this momentum, go beyond advocacy, and translate this crucial principle into practice.
