“Aye, so we’ve reached the conclusion of this tale.” “And we’re just now getting to my favorite part, Mr. Gibbs. Treachery, the open seas, a heroic rescue by yours truly, and the smell of freedom on the air. And spoilers mate…I’m still here so you know what that means, but don’t be fooled — this tale is still a tale worth telling. Dead men tell not tales, after all, and well, we’re not dead so…”
How to Start Lords of the Sea
The final tale in A Pirate’s Life begins the same as always — on any ole outpost on the Sea of Thieves with The Castaway, whom you now know as Tia Dalma or Calypso, the former love of one Davy Jones. Our pirate began this final voyage by reading the “Lords of the Sea” journal at Calypso’s camp.
It was here that Jack, Scrum, Anamaria, and myself appeared for our pirate needed every helping hand they could get. Calypso and Jack explained that Davy Jones intended to use Jack’s Golden Treasure to destroy the Ferryman and the Sea of the Damned. Why? Well, doing so would have allowed Davy Jones to control both the land of the living and the, uhhh, not-so-living. As Jack pointed out at the time, Davy Jones would be able to determine who gains a new lease on life upon death and for obvious reasons, captain wasn’t too happy about that prospect.
Fortunately, Calypso had a plan: sail to Davy Jones and take him out. Our pirate secured all the goods, resources, ammo, and foods they needed before sailing out to that dreaded Davy Jones.
“For someone seemingly so smart at pirating, not very good at hiding, was he, Mr. Gibbs?” “Aye, Jack, not very good at all considering he was hiding under the massive cloud in the sky shaped just like him.”
Where to Go to Begin the Battle Against Davy Jones
Once ready, our pirate sailed out to the Davy Jones cloud in the sky, prepared to meet their fate and fight for their destiny under such a wretched formation up above.
Our pirate knew they were close when there was no map left to see — oh, and Davy Jones’ cloud’s eyes glowed green, too. Once our pirate was close enough, Davy Jones summoned an armada of Ghosts Ships.
How to Get the Ancient Armada Commendation
To satisfy the Ancient Armada commendation, our pirate had to destroy 20 Ghost Ships. They said this would be possible on their first run-in with Jones, but that multiple run-ins would probably be required for other pirates.
How to Defeat Ghost Ships
Anyway, our pirate sailed in circles around Davy Jones’ spire, taking out as many ghost ships as they could until Davy Jones summoned Siren Statues.
To defeat the Ghost Ships, our pirate focused fire on one ship at a time. It took them three direct cannonball hits to destroy a Ghost Ship so our pirate would sail around, following a single Ghost Ship while firing at it until it went down. They preferred up-close combat but if a pirate's aim is great from a long distance, there's no reason they couldn't destroy ships from across the sea. Whatever works best for our pirate is what they did.
Upon defeating about five to seven Ghost Ships, Davy Jones summoned forth out of the sea multiple Siren Statues.
How to Destroy Siren Statues
These Siren Statues were giant and glowing red and to destroy them, they had to shoot each about five times with cannonballs. Our pirate quite literally anchored their ship in front of a statue and fired at it until it exploded and crumbled into the sea.
How to Get the Sea of Silence Commendation
In order for our pirate to earn the Sea of Silence commendation, they had to destroy 10 Siren Statues. Our pirate said this might have been possible on their first run-in with Siren Statues, but that this commendation was easier to achieve on multiple run-ins after the first. Nonetheless, our pirate persevered, taking out waves of ghost ships and siren statues alike until none stood in their way.
Eventually, our pirate had defeated enough statues (about five) that Jack saw another ship would be needed and so he wrestled together the crew of the Black Pearl and together, the two took on the Ghost Ship captains out at bay, making sure to lead their cannonballs so that when they flew through the air, they’d make contact with enemy ships.
Once both our pirate’s ship and the Black Pearl were collaborating to take out the remaining Siren Statues, Calypso spoke to Davy Jones, making it easy for all the captains of the Sea of Theives to arrive without issue. Pendragon, Eli Slate, and more joined the fight against Jones and it was a momentous occasion, truly a sight to behold.
At this point, the pirate armada focused their strength to take out the remaining ghost ships and their captains, sailing around the spire, defeating anything green they spotted on the seas.
How to Get Inside the Spire
Calypso eventually told our pirate that now was the time to strike and so strike our pirate did. They made anchor by Davy Jones' spire and snuck inside, determined to find the foul beast.
Where to Find All Five Forsaken Pirate Journals
Our pirate circled around the spire until they saw a wooden ramp that led upwards. Here’s a painting of what that might have looked like below:
Once they made it inside, they followed the inner pathway upwards until they saw a friendly Phantom to the south of the pathway, just barely outside. They stopped here because they saw a journal on a rock to the left here. It was the “Perdition of the Past” Journal.
After that, they continued upward until they crossed over a small wooden bridge that led to a higher section of the main spire chamber — they could see a ship’s mast directly in front of them here. When they saw the mast, they looked left where they could see a friendly Phantom and a journal beside them. It was the “Marooned” Journal.
After grabbing this journal, they crossed the main beam of the central ship’s mast and made their way back outside, following a wooden pathway that encircled the outer spire. They continued forward until they could see a wooden ladder.
They climbed this ladder and continued along the outer pathway until they found yet another ship mast. They climbed this mast’s ladder and followed the path up here to discover the belly of a ship. Once inside the ship, they looked left and beside the metal gate, hidden by some flora, they discovered the “A Strange Escape” Journal.
From here, our pirate continued forward, dropping down from the ship’s belly on the right — they slid right down it and found two friendly Phantoms down here. To the left of the phantom on the left, they found the “I Serve Davy Jones” Journal.
After this, they climbed up and through the belly of a nearby ship and at the top, they found another friendly Phantom holding a candle. Just to the left of them, sitting on the edge of a piece of wood, they discovered the “A Company Man” Journal.
“Pirates love their journals, don’t they, Mr. Gibbs?” “Aye, Jack, at least in the Sea of Thieves.” “I quite might like to keep a journal back in the Caribbean. Probably good for me brain.”
After our pirate had acquired all five journals there were looking for in the spire, they followed the only path forward until they reached the ladder painted below:
How to Open the Dead Man's Chest
Up here, they ran into an old enemy-turned-acquaintance-turned-enemy-again of Jack’s by the name of Cutler Becket. Soon after talking to them, our pirate was ambushed by all manner of enemy Phantoms.
They fought and they fought until none remained, using the resource barrels in the area to eat food like fruits when needed.
After defeating the last Phantom, the Dead Man’s Chest Key was dropped.
Our pirate used this key to open the Dead Man’s Chest. With it open, Calypso could sense the pendant, which was essentially Davy Jones’ heart. She struck it multiple times with lighting until it was time for our pirate to escape.
The Spire was collapsing and our pirate rushed to escape its collapse in time. They searched the room for their only way out and determined that jumping off a piece of wood stretching out to the sea would be their best bet...and so they jumped. In the water, they swam back to their ship.
How to Defeat Davy Jones
At this point, Davy Jones grew more enraged than ever before and so he took to the Flying Dutchman and fought one last time to take over the Sea of Thieves. Our pirate, accompanied by the likes of Jack, Pendragon, Rose, Slate, and the others, fought tooth and nail to take down the most feared ship in all of piracy: The Flying Dutchman.
They sailed in circles around the Spire, chasing after the Dutchman, making sure to sail with the wind at all times.
“I told them that was the key to success, Mr. Gibbs, so when you think about it, I’m probably the reason Davy Jones was eventually defeated and that makes me the hero.”
Our pirates sailed in circles, firing at the Dutchman with all that they had. It took what felt like dozens of cannonball hits to take it down, but eventually it did go down — not before our pirate ships took a few hits as well, though, for the Dutchman could fire more cannons faster than any ship on the seas. With plenty of wood on deck, though, repairing the ship was no problem for our crews.
Eventually, Davy Jones went down and our pirates had saved the Sea of Thieves. It was at this point that the Black Pearl was finally freed from the Sea of the Damned and so it rose once more. Our pirate joined the crew of the Black Pearl on the Black Pearl’s deck to discuss what they had accomplished.
Worried about what might be of Davy Jones, the Ferryman made an appearance to tell our crews that Davy Jones was now his prisoner, shackled to the very ship Davy Jones wished to make his own.
Where to Find All Five of Jack's Journals Aboard the Black Pearl
Once aboard the Pearl, and while listening to what the pirates had to say, our pirate climbed the ship’s stairs to discover the “A Plan” Journal on the top side of the ship, just beside the back mast.
After that, they found the “A Rumour Journal just beside the ship's wheel.
From there, they entered the captains’ quarters and found the “A Longing” Journal on Jack’s table inside.
After that, they found the “A Theft” Journal on the front of the ship, under a mast and next to some ropes.
Finally, they grabbed the “A Problem” Journal below deck, behind the mast beam near the front of the deck.
When they were ready, they said their goodbyes to the new crew of the Black Pearl and off myself and the crew went. Our pirate returned to their ship and back to sailing the Sea of Thieves they were...for this was the end of our tale.
“You might be asking how exactly we are here today.” “Aye, curious indeed, isn’t it, Jack?” “Well mate, that will have to wait for another time for it appears I have run out of rum. Until next time, savvy?”
