The ugly holiday sweater is a winter staple beloved by theme party hosts and college freshman discovering irony for the first time and every year, about this time, the Nordic patterns on acid start popping up on our radar. And in case there was any question about it, no, they're not remotely stylish. Or actually ironic if they're bought brand new (kind of defeats the whole "this old thing is so bad it's good"). But if there were ever a piece of knitwear that could get us to visit this no-go style territory, it would be the one Sophia Coppola slipped into yesterday.

Look at that thing! It's Bill Murray's visage perfectly captured in yarn (check out that shadowing) peeking through a holiday wreath no less, with a punny "Murray Christmas" caption. Of course, the sweater's existence is owed to the Netflix special A Very Murray Christmas that Coppola directed and Murray stars in, but when a marketing ploy is this clever we can't be mad at it. Hell, we want one (only to Netflix and chill in the confines of our apartment, of course). The point being, if you're going to try the ugly sweater thing this season, just know that Coppola already won.
