Hot on the heels of Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, and a broader cultural reckoning and reevaluation of women in the spotlight (Monica Lewinsky, Britney Spears, etc.) Baywatch bombshell Pamela Anderson is publishing a memoir so the world can finally know her story, in her own words.

On the just-posted cover, for instance, the ’90s icon stares straight ahead in a somber black-and-white portrait, though her hair, makeup, and jewelry are as glamorous as ever. In the caption, and in a series of Instagram Stories posts, Anderson elaborated on what writing the book meant to her.

“It feels like some kind of miracle—to be retracing the painful steps of my youth…. I repainted scenes in detail if it were my childhood or at the Playboy mansion… Just one girl’s messy life…A celebration—of imperfections…. The book is a unpolished attempt. I had no co-writer.…My life—as a mother, as an activist, and as an actress. I am so proud of this book.”

In addition to her work on television, Pamela Anderson is a longtime animal rights advocate and has been a vegan for many years.

On Instagram, her two sons with ex Tommy Lee applauded their mother’s bravery and honesty. “LOVE YOU!!! ❤️” wrote Dylan Jagger Lee.

Brandon Thomas Lee added, “I am so proud of you! What a huge year this is gonna be! You deserve it!! ❤️❤️❤️”

According to publisher HarperCollins, which touts the project as “a heartrending, intimate memoir from the iconic pin-up and Playboy’s last great Playmate,” the book is about “a small-town girl getting tangled up in her own dream.”

The actor wasn’t a fan of the miniseries about her infamous sex tape with Tommy Lee and has also announced a Netflix documentary about her, writing, “Not a victim, but a survivor  & alive to tell the real story,” on Netflix letterhead in her only other Instagram post.
