HOW TO GROW

Sowing: Direct sow in spring, planting just below the surface of the soil. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination. This plant can also be started indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost of spring; these Tagetes Patula seeds germinate best in high humidity and temperatures around 70 degrees F. Germination usually occurs within 5-10 days.

Growing: Water seedlings occasionally until they become established; mature plants tolerate some drought, though watering them in especially dry weather will increase their bloom. Pinch back the growing stems to encourage bushiness. Deadheading will cause continued blooming. This plant attracts bees and butterflies, and will self-seed in good growing conditions. It makes an excellent choice for a border plant or for growing in containers.

Harvesting: For cut flowers, choose stems with flowers that have just opened. Strip the foliage that will fall below the water level, and place in water immediately.

Seed Saving: Allow the flowers to drop their petals and develop into spiky seed heads. When ripe, the heads will be brown or dark brown and easily broken apart to reveal the narrow, sharp Tagetes Patula seeds. Remove the ripe seed heads and spread them out to dry away from direct sunlight. When they have completely dried, break apart the heads to separate the seeds from the husk. Store the cleaned sparky French marigold seed in a cool, dry place.

Best of the best

The seeds that I have received from Everwilde are the best I've ever purchased. First, the foil packaging is not only beautiful, it keeps moisture from the seeds. The instructions are succinct, but thorough. The illustrated instrunctions are the same. A photo of the plant is on every package I've received. My only critique (as a graphic designer) is that yellow-colored type is one of the hardest to read. All caps is also harder to read than traditional upper/lower case usage. This critiques are trivial compared with the outstanding packaging. Finally, I love the Bible verse on the package. I haven't used the seeds yet, so I can't speak about them. But the care in creating outstanding packaging leads me to believe the seeds will be remarkable too. I highly recommend this company that seems to be the cream of the crop in plant seeds.

First time buyer... can't wait to plant

I haven't grown these yet but a You Tube Influencer speaks highly of this companies seeds. Her garden looks lovely. I can't wait to plant them soon. The packaging is very nice. I had one package out of many that the seal broke and they responded quickly and sent me a new package to put the seeds in. The seeds look nice and viable

DESCRIPTION

Add extra sparkle to the garden with these vivid orange and yellow stunners. The compact, bushy plants grow quickly and easily from seed, and are sure to please! Some gardeners plant this flower in the garden to repel pests.
Though native to Mexico and Central America, these flowers spread to Europe with explorers and became popular as ornamental plants. Because of their beauty, they often adorned statues of Mary, resulting in the common name "Mary's gold." Gardeners often use this species as a companion plant for vegetables, since it prevents disease and harmful pests. The genus name "Tagetes" comes from Tages, an ancient deity who sprung up from the ground. The species name "patula" comes from the Latin word for "spreading wide," referring to the opening blossoms.
