The 25-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger began his fitness journey initially to lose weight. However, after reading his father’s famous book, The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, Jo Baena found the inspiration he needed to transition into bodybuilding. While the young actor doesn’t plan to compete on stage, he wants to build a physique fit for a Hollywood leading man.

Lately, the bodybuilding icon’s son has taken his bodybuilding goals far more seriously. The Austrian Oak is among the best bodybuilders in the sport’s history. After coming to America in 1968, Arnie helped make the sport popular. He won seven Mr. Olympia titles and became a celebrity in the bodybuilding world. Even after retiring, Schwarzenegger used his influence to move the sport forward and provide a platform for other bodybuilders.

Arnold Schwarzenegger also wrote various books and experimented with exercises. However, one of the exercise variations he invented became immensely popular. The exercise is known as the Arnold Press. While the standard version of the dumbbell shoulder press involves moving the weight overhead with a pronated grip, Schwarzenegger made a subtle change. Instead of keeping the wrist pronated, Arnie rotated his wrist.

He began the movement with a supinated grip and rotated his wrist into the pronated position. The variation recruits all three heads of the deltoid. Joseph Banea shared a video on his Instagram story of his gym partner, Joshua Manoi, who uploaded of him trying the famous exercise. While the 25-year-old only did six reps in the video, he was lifting a heavy pair of dumbbells. “How bad do you want it?” his training partner wrote to accentuate the intensity of the set. However, the young actor didn’t care much about fitness even half a decade ago.

What got Joseph Banea into fitness?

While appearing on Bradley Martyn’s podcast in 2022, the youngest son of Arnold Schwarzenegger confessed to slacking off. The bodybuilding enthusiast said he was always into sports as a kid. From football to swimming, Baena participated in various sports and even saw his physique develop through swimming.
