    I still remember creating art with Spirograph when I was a child and many decades later it’s still a great classic. This compact set packs in a lot of possibilities. Included are five markers, six design wheels, one ring and a small pad of paper. There are detailed instructions that have a lot of information on how to use the product to make designs that range from simple to complex. The ring has definitely been upgrade since I was younger. It no longer needs to be pinned down. Instead there are rubber feet to keep it in place. I’m really looking forward to introducing my grandchildren to this delightful kit and the way I used to have fun without needing batteries, chargers and cables! I definitely recommend this set for children and adults who are still young at heart.

    When I was a boy, back in the Bronze Age, I spent hours playing with a Spirograph, creating all kinds of pretty drawings. This is basically the same toy. Stick the pen in the gear, carefully run it around the inside (or outside) of the other gear and Volia! Instant Hypotrochoid! (Check it out on Wikipedia if you want to see the math!)

    If you’re thinking of getting this for someone younger than the 8+ rating, it’s important that they are well coordinated. It takes patience and good pen control to keep the teeth meshed while moving the gears. Do it right, though, and it’s good for hours of nerdy fun.

    Exactly what I had as a kid! The gears seem the same as I remember. The neon colors of the markers is a change, but these are more fun when you pull out larger paper and a full set of markers. You can’t go wrong with this set.

    I got this for a touch of nostalgia, as I remember playing with something similar back when I was a kid. Perfect for sharing with my great nieces and nephews now.

    The kit comes in a nice little metal tin, with several plastic discs that are interchangeable in the circular ring so you can create your own designs with the enclosed markers. I remember using colored pencils too when I was a child, which will probably work just as well here when the markers give up the ghost. Only a few sheets of paper are included, but printer paper or drawing pads you can pick up at the craft store would work fine as well.

    Price seems a smidge high for what you get, but it provides great fun for creative minds both young and old(er). Put down the devices and use your imagination here for some old-fashioned entertainment!

    I remember having one of these as a kid so I thought my son would enjoy having one since he likes to draw, color, & create! It arrived in the mail today & he's been having fun trying it out! He's already gotten creative with it...turning his designs into flowers, happy faces, etc. *Cool!* :)

    I gave him pens & colored pencils & more thin markers to for him to try out different writing utensils & colors with it other than just the 4 markers that come with it & so he can see which he likes using best, or if he wishes to combine using all of them for more variety & colors in his drawings!

    I like that it all comes in a handy, thin tin case so that you can store the items neatly inside of it & take it with you if you ever want to take it anywhere for your child to use it on a trip, at a friend's house, or camping, etc. (I'd suggest bringing along more colors of writing utensils than just the 4 markers that are in the kit though, to keep a child's interest in it for longer!) Also, be aware that the instructions say that the markers included with it can "stain furniture." So they apparently aren't "washable" markers, so you may wish to take them out of the set altogether & use your own "washable" markers instead if you have those, or colored pencils, etc if you're giving this to a younger child who may not be as careful when they're using it.

    The instructions it comes with gives a lot of ideas/pictures for different designs you can make with the kit & it instructs how to make them (although the text is kind of small & detailed for a child to follow by themselves, unless they're older & at a decent reading level, or if a parent/older sibling helps a younger sibling with the instructions if necessary)...if your child even wishes to follow any of the instructions for the designs in the booklet. My son's just enjoying making his own creations himself with his own imagination so far! And even just looking at the pictures in the booklet can help a child "follow" the designs shown if they wish to try to replicate any without following the instructions implicitly.

    It also shows pictures of which disc makes what kinds of shapes, so that's also a help for a child deciding which disc they want to use for making any designs they want to make! I even enjoyed using it a bit! It's a cool "blast from the past" from my own childhood! Some things just never go out of style I guess! :) I think it's a cute stocking stuffer or Easter basket item, etc.

    I don't expect that this will hold my son's attention span for a "long" time though...I don't think it's meant to be that kind of an item really~to be entertaining a child for a "long" time (but I guess that can depend on how "artsy" your child is!) I think it's a nice item to take along traveling since it's small & slim, or if you're going somewhere & you're packing up a bag of coloring supplies. etc.

    For us, it will most likely be something that my son will probably use occasionally for something different to do, or when he wants to make a specific drawing/coloring using the disks to create special flowers & happy faces, or "star" & "snowflake" shapes, or other neat designs, etc. I've told him if he makes any that he finds especially cool, that we can hang them on the fridge, or give them to Grandma & Grandpa...just to give him a little extra incentive for him to keep using it periodically, if he gets bored with it. :)

     Finding this on Amazon brought back found memories of when I was a kid, as I was fortunate enough to have a large Spirograph set, which provided countless hours of fun. That set is long gone, when I saw this I knew it would be a perfect way to share a piece of my childhood with my grandchildren.

    This is a lovely Spirograph starter kit, complete with six different gears, five neon markers, a pad of paper, detailed instructions and a nifty tin storage case.

    The Spirograph was a wonderful invention, long before personal computers and drawing software, it allowed you to easily create extremely complex designs using just a pen, a geared ring and special wheels.

    This kit has a lot to offer, the six different wheels each offer numerous patterns, which can be overlaid to create extremely intricate designs.

    The tin storage box adds to the retro theme, and does a very good job of keeping everything organized and ready to play.

    The Spirograph is not only fun, it is also a great educational toy, as all of the designs are seated in simple math equations.

    Truly a welcomed blast from the past, and a good value.
