Kits Pool the third-sexiest pool in the world, says Red Bull

The third-sexiest pool in the world opens on May 19.
That’s the date all of Vancouver’s outdoor pools reopen to the public for the summer, including the 137-metre Kits Pool, which recently placed third on a RedBull.com list of the world’s sexiest pools to train in.
Third place. That’s a bronze medal in Olympic terms or, as Canadians accustomed to third-place finishes often say, “Canada gold.”
What does Red Bull know about pools, you ask? Maybe nothing. But a Vancouver pool finished third, so we are more than willing to accept the energy drink company’s authority on the matter.
Kits Pool was beaten out only by second-place finisher The Sea Point Pavilion in Cape Town, South Africa, which is “perched on the shores of the South Atlantic, and sitting in the shadow of Table Mountain,” and Sydney, Australia’s Bondi Icebergs Club, another oceanside pool with an incredible view of the crashing waves at Bondi Beach.
Sexiest, in this case, clearly means “scenic,” and Kits Pool is certainly that. The saltwater swimming hole, which opened in 1931, overlooks English Bay with views of the North Shore mountains and the Vancouver skyline.
“This pool definitely needs a visit if you want to stretch your achy body and have a swim to remember,” writes Nick Busca, the author of the listicle.
It is a very good pool.
And this year, Kits Pool will be even sexier, as a $3.3-million renovation, the first significant renovation to the pool in nearly 40 years, is set to be completed before the pool reopens to the public next month.
The pool has been covered since the fall, and when the tarp comes off, it will be better than ever.
Granted, most of the upgrades will be unseen — the primary upgrade is a new membrane to cut down on leaks and save water.
But that’s OK. There’s no improving on the scenery, which even Red Bull would agree is the most beautiful on the continent. Of the nine other pools listed, Kits Pool is the only one in North America.
