James Madison recruited Tim Legler when he was a 6-foot-4 guard at J.R. Tucker High. Legler wonders if the offer still stands.
Legler, 53 and a longtime NBA analyst on various ESPN platforms, said Wednesday that he intends to look into the coaching vacancy at JMU.
“College coaching is something I’m definitely interested in,” said Legler, who has high school and extensive high-level AAU coaching experience.
The Dukes launched a coaching search after parting ways with alum Louis Rowe earlier this month. Rowe led JMU for four seasons, and to a record of 43-85. JMU moves into a new basketball arena, the 8,500-seat Atlantic Union Bank Center, next season.
Legler, a graduate of La Salle, played in the NBA for six teams from 1989 to 2000. Legler, who scored 1,699 points at La Salle, won the 3-point shooting contest as a member of the Washington Bullets at the 1996 NBA All-Star Game at the Alamodome in San Antonio. After his NBA career, Legler began a successful run at ESPN.
