Yoga, plays and soirées – 5 events to celebrate International Women’s Day in Toronto

International Women’s day is right around the corner, and women far and wide will be marching in celebration and support of each other, but marching isn’t the only way to mark the occasion. 

There are plenty of events taking place across the city honouring women, so here’s a list of fun and inclusive activities to attend this International Women’s Day. 

HER MARKET 

Shop products and services developed and sold by women, make connections and feel empowered this International Women’s Day.

HER MARKET is a marketplace hosting women-owned businesses; offering networking opportunities and the chance to connect with like minded individuals while supporting local, female entrepreneurs.

There will be 25+ businesses at Scarborough Town Centre and the first 30 guests will be receiving a swag bag filled with goodies on International Women’s Day.

The market will take place on March 8 and 9 at 10 a.m till 9 p.m and March 10 from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m.

TOnow International Women’s Day Soireé

Celebrate the achievements of women at this epic networking soiree!

The evening will be packed with activity, including wine tastings from female-owned wineries,  motivational speakers, performances from JUNO Award-winning female artists, and plenty of professional networking opportunities. 

All proceeds from the event will be donated to organizations dedicated to supporting women. 

The event is taking place on March 6 at The Concert Hall, 888 Yonge Street.

International Women’s Day Yoga Fundraiser at 10XTO

10XTO is celebrating International Women’s day with a two-hour long yoga class fundraiser. 

Break a sweat, make friends and raise money for a worthy cause at this empowering event.

The class will focus on physical strength, deep stretching and a reflection portion. It will close with a savasana led by a singing bowl sound bath and journaling opportunities. 

The two-hour challenge will take place on the tennis courts at 10XTO, with the sunset as a backdrop and DJ Natalie Rivera curating music to keep everyone moving and energized.

Everyone is welcome to join, with modifications available for all levels.

Tickets start at $35.55 and can be purchased here.

One hundred per cent of the funds raised will be donated to both Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter and Library.

THE 519 x TORONTO QUEER MARKET – INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY EDITION

The 519 is hosting a market featuring over 30 women- and trans-owned businesses in its second floor ballroom from 4:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m on March 8.

Drop by with friends and family to peruse the market place courtesy of Toronto Queer Market.

There will be food, drinks, and a dazzling, free drag show at 6:30 p.m. from drag king Prince Manny Dingo.

The 519 is located at 519 Church Street, and entry is free!

Women at Play(s)

Women at Play(s) is a festival of short, one act plays written, directed, and acted by women playwrights, directors, and actors. 

For its sixth edition, there will be six one-act plays running 10 to 20 minutes each covering topics such as ageism, domestic violence, femicide, sisterhood, and women empowerment. 

Women At Play(s) helps to facilitate theatrical production for people who identify as women of all diversities, identities and is disability inclusive.

Shows are running from March 7-10 at the Red Sandcastle Theatre.
