Minister for Law, Justice, Constituent Assembly, Narahari Acharya has argued that there was no country in the world where controversies had not seen during the constitution promulgation phase.

Speaking at a programme organized here today by Nepal Press Union on the occasion of 101st birth anniversary of freedom fighter BP Koirala, Minister Acharya shared that many provisions were accepted in the India’s constitution after 12 years of its promulgation.

“A big number of human causalities were reported in India during the delivery of new constitution as severe controversies courted its issuance,” cited Acharya, adding that the controversies eventually led to the disintegration of India and division of a single Constituent Assembly into two.

Stating that constitution promulgation process through the CA was a tough task, he affirmed that the lawmakers will not deter in the face of challenge for the same.

Minister Acharya, also Nepali Congress Central Committee member, informed that the political parties will try to accommodate as much as voices in the new constitution right from this stage of the constitution drafting and the issues left to be incorporated in the constitution now could be added later.

“The constitution bill was revised with generosity,” share Acharya, adding, “It could be revised according to the people’s choice and need in the future.”

He added that the word ‘socialism’ was incorporated in the preamble of the draft of the new constitution was expounded by leader BP Koirala.

Also, speaking at the programme, lawmaker Buddhi Sagar Chaudhary argued that BP’s ideologies were equally relevant in today’s context. He also stated that the demands put forth by Tharu and Madhes-centric parties could be addressed through the mid-way advocated by BP Koirala.

Similarly, National Information Commission Commissioner, Kiran Kumar Pokharel said that the concept of inclusiveness, which the current political parties were trying to implement, was long ago exercised by BP during his leadership.

Senior journalist Harihar Birahi suggested the media persons to play role in empowering public as envisaged by BP.

Speakers like Press Union President Badri Sigdel, Senior Vice-President Deepak Acharya, female Vice-President Bala Adhikari and General Secretary of Union, Ajababu Siwakoti lauded the contributions of BP Koirala and underscored the promulgation of a democratic constitution at the earliest. RSS
