Many people today ask themselves the question: do women really have a big impact on Hip-Hop? This question has been debated for awhile for many reasons. Some may debate that women are just in the music business for entertainment, some may say that they are just trying to keep up with men, and some will say that they play an important role in the industry. I’d agree with that last statement completely and say that women now play an important role in the music industry. One perfect example is Nicki Minaj. She has slowly become one of the biggest names in hip-hop over the past few years. Nicki grew up in New York posting videos and reaching out to people and promoting herself and eventually it paid off. After many failures and a lot of issues with employment, Nicki Minaj was discovered and signed by Lil Wayne in 2009.
Nicki Minaj is now one of the highest paid celebrities with a net worth of $60 million. She is now in the Top 10 highest paid hip-hop artist and she definitely has a big impact on the music industry. She has countless awards, plenty of number 1 hits on Billboard’s charts and has become a classic name for our generation. Women in Hip-Hop are becoming more & more prominent everyday, you never know who will be next.
