$700,000 federal grant given to Volunteers of America to assist in the road to recovery

Clay County, Ky. (WYMT) - A federal grant was given to the Volunteers of America (VOA) located in Clay County.

The grant will be used to focus on treatment of substance use disorder. The grant provides assistance for those in the surrounding community.

VOA received a $700,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime grant program.

Money from the grant will be used to establish Family Recovery Court in Clay County.

The grant allows the necessary treatment resources and reuniting families while emphasizing long-term recovery and the safety of children

Jennifer Hancock, President and CEO of Volunteers of America says “We know the Family Recovery Court model works and will make a difference in Clay County and can work throughout the region. VOA is committed to keeping families safe and providing resources for long-term recovery. Family Recovery Court will be a truly important resource for Clay County families.”

The grant highlights the safety and welfare of abused and neglected children while building support for parents to effectively address substance abuse.

Both U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate President Robert Stivers supported the program and advocate for federal funding.

“VOA is doing impressive work in Eastern Kentucky to help families and children impacted by the substance abuse epidemic. I was proud to work with Jennifer Hancock to help them secure these resources for their life-saving work. As Senate Majority Leader, I’ll continue mobilizing the federal government to deliver for Kentucky’s fight against the addiction crisis,” U.S. Senate Majority Mitch McConnell said.

The Clay County Freedom house opened earlier this year, and Freedom House is VOA’s nationally recognized treatment program for pregnant and parenting women overcoming substance use disorder.

There is also a VOA Recovery Community Center in Manchester assisting people in the road to recovery.
