NOTE: As of April 13, 2024, the Coronavirus Tracker is no longer being updated due to the unfeasibility of providing statistically valid global totals, as the majority of countries have now stopped reporting. However, historical data remain accessible. Worldometer delivered the most accurate and timely global statistics to users and institutions around the world at a time when this was extremely challenging. We thank everyone who participated in this extraordinary collaborative effort.

Peregrine Falcon (Falco Peregrinus)

-

The Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) is a medium-sized raptor found on every continent except Antarctica. It has also been called the Duck Hawk.

- These falcons are renowned for their speed, reaching 390 Kmh during characteristic hunting stoops or dives. They are considered the fastest animals on Earth.

- They have blue-gray wings and backs with lighter underparts. Their most distinctive marking is the dark hood and sideburns on the sides of the face.

- Peregrine Falcons nest on tall cliffs and urban towers and skyscrapers. They mainly eat other birds such as pigeons and ducks which they capture in flight.

- Populations declined last century due to pesticide residues accumulating in the birds and thinning their eggshells. Their recovery is considered one of conservation's major success stories.

- These falcons are now found thriving in many urban areas where tall buildings resemble the high cliffs they naturally nest on.
