When it comes to aesthetic treatments and procedures, it's important to do your research and go to a practitioner you can trust. But, even non-surgical procedures aren't without risk – which Linda Evangelista knows more than anyone.

One of the most famous supermodels of the 90s, who is also on the latest Vogue front cover, Linda Evangelista made headlines again last year after speaking out about a CoolSculpting treatment that went wrong.

Linda developed paradoxical adipose hyperplasia after the procedure, which is when the fatty tissue in the body grows instead of shrinking in response to the treatment. While she said she tried everything to reverse the results, she said that nothing helped and eventually announced that she had filed a lawsuit against Zeltiq Aesthetics for grievous injuries on Instagram.

Linda wrote: 'If I had known side effects may include losing your livelihood and you'll end up so depressed that you hate yourself… I wouldn't have taken that risk.

'Am I cured mentally? Absolutely not. But I'm so grateful for the support I got from my friends and from my industry… you're not going to see me in a swimsuit, that's for sure.'

A year later and ahead of a new documentary The Supermodels on Apple TV, Linda has spoken about why she still chooses to get anti-wrinkle injections – despite previous aesthetic treatments going wrong.

'I don’t mind and I never did mind ageing,' Linda told Vogue. 'Ageing gets us to where we want to be, and that’s for me a long life. [Makeup artist] Kevyn Aucoin was so afraid of wrinkles and he never got them. I want wrinkles—but I Botox my forehead so I am a hypocrite—but I want to grow old.'

If you ask us – it's her body, her choice. But if we can learn anything from Linda's experience, it's to not undergo any aesthetic treatment lightly, without weighing up the risks.
