This research addresses a critical implementation gap of overuse of musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging in Australian primary care, which increases risk of harm to patients from overdiagnosis and overtreatment and from cumulative exposure to ionizing radiation. The research also advances generalisable knowledge about how audit and feedback (a widely used implementation strategy aimed at improving professional practice) can be optimised.
