TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Are you seeing green? Tampa officials are testing the dye used to transform the Hillsborough River for the River O’Green festival on St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Boats turned a portion of the river in Downtown Tampa green on Friday morning.

The dye is temporary, safe for the environment and non-toxic, the Tampa Downtown Partnership said in a news release. The same dye is used in surgeries, food production and water systems to track where the water flows.

Tampa’s Downtown River O’ Green event is on Sunday, March 17 at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. The festival features kids activities, live music, food trucks and, of course, beer. There’s also a pet costume contest, so make sure to dress your furry friend in green!

This year’s event coincides with the Tampa Rough Riders’ St. Patrick’s Day parade on the streets of Downtown Tampa.
