Black Pine Animal Sanctuary has lost two of its animals.

Bengal tiger Jai and black potbelly pig Arnold both passed away this week, the Albion animal sanctuary shared on its Facebook page. Jai was found dead Friday morning of a suspected seizure, while Arnold passed away after falling ill this past weekend.

“It’s been a bittersweet week at Black Pine. In the midst of our 25 Days of Christmas and the many wishes that have been granted, we have suffered two losses that leave us heartbroken,” Black Pine wrote on its Facebook page.

Jai, who was nearly 19 years old, was born at Black Pine with her sister, Cita. The animal sanctuary said Jai first suffered a seizure in 2017, and suffered several more before she began having “cluster seizures” three weeks ago. A veterinarian said Jai likely suffered from a brain tumor.

Arnold fell ill on Sunday and was treated for hypothermia and possible infection but became anemic. Black Pine’s Healthcare Committee agreed to euthanized Arnold to end his suffering, but the animal sanctuary said about the time that decision was made, Arnold passed away on his own. He was 14.
