Love Actually and EastEnders star Martine McCutcheon has opened up about her weight loss journey. After losing a whopping 21 inches off her waist, the 47-year-old has shared the ultimate tip she swears by.

The actress hasn't been shy when it comes to speaking about her health conditions, including Lyme disease, chronic ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and fibromyalgia. It has meant she's been figuring out what not only works best for her body, but also her health.

Having previously spoken about losing weight on The Cambridge Diet, she has since ditched the ‘crazy diets’ in favour of what helps her the most. The Cambridge Diet is a calorie-controlled diet aimed at rapid weight loss. There is a strict regime to follow, starting as a 12-week, very low-calorie diet consisting of meal replacements in the form of shakes, soups and bars.

It has since been renamed as the 1:1 diet, as it also includes personal one-to-one support with a diet consultant to guide you through the different stages. Meals featured on the 1:1 include porridge, spaghetti Bolognese, shakes, smoothies and bites.

But now Martine has left the Cambridge Diet behind, opting for her own rules, swearing by one simple tip, as reported by MirrorOnline. Considering herself to be in the best shape of her life, the actress whittles down her success to a plethora of veggies, as well as eating fruit as snacks.

She told Best Magazine: “For 80 per cent of my week, I will mainly have just healthy proteins, vegetables and fruit, organic and veggie juices, and Flora spread. And then I'll have treats 20 per cent of the time. It's taken me such a long time to look through all the stuff that's out there, and just do what works for me. It's not just as simple as going on a crazy diet.”

Having lost weight steadily after the birth of her son Rafferty in 2015, Martine said she wanted to ‘feel healthy again’ without taking things too extreme. She worked with a consultant on the diet plan, needing to maintain a slow and steady weight loss due to her Lyme disease.

Martine described the illness as playing “havoc” with her body. She previously told Hello! Magazine: “My loss was a tiny bit slower than the average person but to be honest I expected that as many diets/food plans didn't work for me at all.” She added: “When I get symptoms or when my body starts clanging, it's a sign for me to pace myself, rest.”
