Duchess Camilla tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, less than a week after her husband Prince Charles's diagnosis.

A spokesman for Clarence House released a brief statement on the royal's behalf that said, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating. We continue to follow government guidelines.” Her diagnosis comes four days after Charles went into self-isolation following his own positive test results. The palace confirmed that Camilla has been vaccinated and has also received her booster shot. She was also tested last week and her results came back negative so she continued with her scheduled royal engagements, including a visit to a sexual assault referral center in South London.

Last week, the Prince of Wales pulled out of a planned engagement in Winchester to unveil a statue of Licoricia, a renowned figure in England’s medieval Jewish community, after testing positive for a second time. The Daily Mail reported that the royal took the test as part of his routine procedures before public engagements. A source also told the outlet that Charles had visited with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle during an investiture ceremony on Tuesday, but the monarch has not shown any symptoms thus far. A royal source told People that the queen’s health will continue to be monitored, but the palace will not provide regular updates on the matter.

This is the second time Prince Charles has contracted the virus. His first positive diagnosis came towards the beginning of the pandemic in late March 2020 after he developed mild symptoms while traveling to Birkhall, his country home on the Balmoral estate in Scotland. Camilla also tested negative that time and the couple self-isolated in separate rooms. Prince William also got COVID a few weeks later, although he did not publicly acknowledge his diagnosis until November 2020. However, a source told Vanity Fair at the time that the royal's illness was “no secret among the family.”
