Kate Beckinsale may have been married for 11 years and had a number of well-documented relationships, but according to the actress she’s yet to go on a single date.
During an appearance on Extra Wednesday to discuss her new film, the actress, 47, was asked by host Jenn Lahmers about the worst first date she’s ever been on. “Do you know I’ve really never been on a date?” Beckinsale confessed, adding jokingly, “I literally meet someone, get to know them at work, and then either marry them or get pregnant by them.” She continued, “I don’t think I’ve ever been on of those, like, ‘oh, a friend has set me up and I’m meeting a total stranger.’ I’ve never done that. I just can’t think of anything I’d hate more than sitting in front of somebody I don’t know, that chances are I won’t like, and then have to sit and watch them eat food.”
Perhaps based on her own strict definition of what a date is, Beckinsale really has never actually been on one. But she’s definitely been spotted many times over the years enjoying public outings with a handful of very high-profile men. The actress shares her 21-year-old daughter, Lily, with former partner Michael Sheen and was also married to director Len Wiseman from 2004 until they separated in 2015. And even if both those romances followed the curious pattern Beckinsale described, since then she’s been spotted on what most people would consider dates.
In 2017, she began a one-year relationship with comedian Matt Rife, which the former TLC host told TMZ started when they met at the Laugh Factory when he was 21 and was “complicated” with “a lot of ups and downs.” The next year, she was photographed making out with another comic, Jack Whitehall, at a Los Angeles karaoke bar. She also had a short-lived, but much talked about, four-month relationship with Pete Davidson in 2019, right after the SNL star’s engagement to Ariana Grande was called off. That connection also began with a very memorable and heavily-photographed makeout sesh at a Rangers game—an event which some might consider to be a date. And most recently, Beckinsale enjoyed a nine-month relationship with singer Goody Grace that also saw them cuddled-up courtside.
