Fergie to legally change her name ... to Fergie

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie wants to make her stage name official.

According to her lawyer, the star, whose real name is Stacy Ann Ferguson, has filed a request with Los Angeles County Superior Court and is seeking to be known forevermore as Fergie Duhamel.

In addition to taking the last name of her husband, actor Josh Duhamel, Fergie would also like to "conform to the first name which she is commonly and professionally known as, and has been for many years," her lawyer tells the New York Daily News.

For the name change to go through, Fergie is required to publish a notice in a newspaper for four consecutive weeks stating her intention and then she'll have a hearing on Aug. 16 to finalize the request.

Fergie and Duhamel also have another big date looming: They're expecting their first child later this year.
