I just found this one owner 2003 Toyota Tundra Stepside Limited, and I had to have it. Service records from day 1 from the dealership…holy grail! This truck has a fiberglass cover, but I want a camper top. Does anyone have a camper shell for this Limited stepside? I know this bed type is odd. Please help. Thank you.

Ha! I have been considering making a very similar post… hoping somebody in the forum with more experience will have some advice for us. I’ve been searching around a while, with no luck. There never were very many stepsides out there. Less so these days.

I’ve reached out to a few used topper places around where I am.

Good luck to both of us!

Pretty cool, I had no idea that Toyota had made a step side bed. Good luck on the shell, just keep looking at all the usual sources. When they do come up, they are sold quickly. I missed out on one a couple of years ago and haven't seen another one since.

I always though the camper shells that they made for the 90’s stepside silverados looked cool.

I have a friend of a friend in Washington that just found a topper for her step-side first gen Tundra. I was shocked she found one and it's in great shape.

I wonder if toppers for the normal bed would fit. If you want to post some measurements of your bed rails I would be happy to measure my topper.

That's good to hear! Im pretty confidant they won't fit - the step sides are a good bit narrower than the standard bed, especially at the back - they are tapered from the front to rear.

Its good to know the series on the leer topper, Thanks for the info! Ill probably keep checking around locally and seeing what I can find - but I think i've really landed on keeping the rolling cover, and adding some bed cross bars for mounting things on the back.

Hello, I know this is a couple months old, but does a regular camper shell fit a side step? Anyone find out for sure? Thanks in advance.

Step side toppers are different and very rare. You'd be better off swapping to a regular bed and finding a topper for it most likely.

Got it, I was hoping that it did fit so I can buy one and keep it on my side step till I find a double cab and then swap it over.

Guess I’ll keep looking for a double cab with one it it. Thank you for the response and info.

What wheels and lift do you have on your truck?

Just a 2" lift via ICON coilovers. Wheels are stealth custom series-Ray 10's.

Did you have to change out the upper control arms with that kit?

    Thanks

Yes it's recommended for with aftermarket arms if you lift 2 or more inches. I went with SPC arms.

I finally found a 1st Gen Tundra Stepside camper shell. I had it painted. Here’s the finished product. Now, I’m looking to add a roof rack. Any suggestions? Thanks.0FFC9EC0-2662-4D67-A531-FC5F89027E05.jpg

    I have a rack system I kept off my old truck . . . pretty sure it's a Yakima
The thing I like about it is that it consists of 2 low profile rails you mount to the roof of your shell, so when not in use it's pretty low profile.
When you want to use it, it's a quick & easy install of the towers & cross bars that are key-locked etc. They also slide the length of the rails to adjust for whatever you are carrying up top.
My 1 recommendation is when drilling the shell to mount whatever system you choose, use a VERY good sealant . . . not RTV /Silicone.
I used a product made by 3M called '5200' . . . it's a marine sealant. Stuff is legit, especially if you prep the area correctly.
This way your shell will not leak in the rain.
BTW, the 5200 only comes in the color white. But if you take your time and tape-off the area(s) cleanly, and keep a roll of paper towels & some acetone handy, you can make the install completely clean.
