One of British Columbia's best winter and summer destinations, Sun Peaks Resort is located just a 45-minute drive from Kamloops. It's also about a five-hour drive from Vancouver—or a 40-minute plane ride from Vancouver if you'd prefer to enjoy views of the landscape from above—making it an ideal place to plan a weekend getaway whether you're traveling solo, with your loved one, or have the whole family in tow.

Though the all-inclusive resort is perhaps most famous for its winter sports opportunities, there are plenty of things to do here during the summer months as well. Skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports typically run from November to April, while summer sports including mountain biking, golfing, canoeing, and alpine hiking are popular from July to October. Long weekends are a busy time to visit but going mid-week and toward the beginning or end of the summer or winter seasons can help you bag a bargain. Here's how to make the most of your time there, no matter what time of year you plan to visit this part of Canada.

Did you know the Sun Peaks Resort and greater Kamloops area of British Columbia also happens to be a popular spot for golfers? Kamloops, located about 45 minutes south of Sun Peaks Resort, is one of the most rapidly-growing golf destinations in the province. For that reason, it's worth considering a combination trip to both Sun Peaks Resort and the Kamloops region so you enjoy an idyllic—and affordable—golf vacation.

At its perch roughly 1,200 meters above sea level, the 6,400-yard Sun Peaks Golf Course is considered to be British Columbia's highest elevation golf course. Idyllically situated in the valley between the mountains, this challenging 18-hole par 72 Graham Cooke-designed golf course makes guests feel like they're playing two courses in one—the front nine's holes are decidedly different from those on the back nine, where the elevation is considerably higher.

While mountain hiking and biking are extremely popular summertime activities in Vancouver as well as throughout the rest of British Columbia, tracking down the perfect mountain biking conditions isn't always easy.

One of the best things to do at Sun Peaks Resorts during the summer months is downhill mountain biking. Here, you'll be able to choose your own adventure: Take on the original Tod Mountain bike park's 2,000 vertical feet of lift-accessed terrain—with no wait times for the lift, access to a number of distinct trails, and heaps of gorgeous alpine blossoms that add to the dramatic downhill scenery—or ride the Sundance Express 1,559 feet up Sundance Mountain and try the resort's six newest bike trails, which just opened in summer 2022. Mountain biking enthusiasts can also take a spin on about 7.5 miles (12 km) of new pedal-access trails that go all the way up to the top of Mt. Morrisey.
