Police on Gabriola Island are investigating the discovery of a human foot.

A male walking the beach on Sunday found what appeared to be a disarticulated foot inside a hiking boot, police said. The foot was wedged in a logjam.

Gabriola Island RCMP said the forensic identification service and the B.C. Coroners Service are working to determine the identity of the remains.

More than a dozen feet have washed up on B.C. shores since 2007.

The B.C. Coroners Service said the previous cases have not involved foul play.

Ten of those have been identified as belonging to seven people who died by accident or suicide. One foot was linked to a man who had gone missing 25 years earlier when his boat overturned near Port Moody.

In December, a leg and foot were found on a Jordan River beach. DNA analysis was used to link the human remains to a 79-year-old Washington state man who went missing in September 2017.
