Gemma Arterton is struggling to remember the name of a comedian her mother liked. “He’s a bigoted right-wing man,” the actress, 36, begins. “He rants, he goes off on one about immigrants, but he does it in a satirical way. Oh, why can’t I remember what he’s called?” She’s sounding increasingly exasperated. “This is baby-brain right now.”

Arterton is heavily pregnant, in a stretchy black dress, sparkly stilettos and gold hoop earrings, fitting in one last interview before her first child is born. “I don’t know what I’ll be like when the baby is here, I could be a zombie,” she says, laughing.
