Mel Gibson howls in horror as he lets an audience member shear his beard off on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live
Actor was promoting his latest film, Golden Globe-nominated Hacksaw Ridge
ACTOR Mel Gibson gives hirsute the boot — as he gets his bushy beard shaved off by a stranger on TV.
The Braveheart star, 61, howled as he had his facial hair sheared by an audience member on talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live in Los Angeles.
The audience volunteer was returning the favour, after Mel buzzed off some of his long, red curls.
Mel later joked that he also wanted a Brazilian wax during the segment, which aired on Thursday.
The Aussie was promoting his film Hacksaw Ridge, his first project as a director in ten years.
The World War Two drama, starring Andrew Garfield as real-life war hero Desmond Doss, earned him a nomination for Best Director at this at this Sunday's Golden Globes.
The movie also got a nod for Best Drama, while Garfield is up for Best Actor, and it was named one of the top ten movies of the year by the American Film Institute.
The AFI held its annual awards gala Friday night in LA, where a freshly shaved Mel appeared on the red carpet with his girlfriend Rosalind Ross, 26.
