Jared Keeso, right, seen with his 19-2 co-star Adrian Holmes, switches from playing a cop to a hick in his new comedy Letterkenny, now shooting in Sudbury.
Production has started in and around Sudbury on Letterkenny, a new comedy commissioned by CraveTV and the Comedy Network from 19-2 star Jared Keeso.
It’s based on Keeso’s web seriesLetterkenny Problems, about “good old boys” in the fictional town of Letterkenny, Ont. And if you click on that video link, please note there is some profanity in it.
(There is a real Letterkenny, by the way, but it’s a ghost town in Renfrew County, west of Ottawa. Al Capone allegedly had a cottage in the area in the 1940s.)

Keeso, who grew up in Listowel, Ont., is co-writer, executive producer and star of the six-part series. Jacob Tierney, writer and director of feature film The Trotsky, is co-writer, director and executive producer on the series.
Calgary actor Nathan Dales, Keeso’s sidekick on the web, is also his sidekick in the TV comedy.
In a news release, Bell Media said there’s more casting news to come.
“Letterkenny’s world may smell like stale cigarettes and beer, but its approach to comedy is a breath of fresh air,” Corrie Coe, Bell’s senior vice-president of independent production, said in the release.
Keeso and Dales play Wayne and Daryl, members of a Letterkenny social groups known as the Hicks. The other groups are the Skids and the Hockey Players.
The Hockey Players include Dylan Playfair and Andrew Herr, who played Marty and Mark Howe in the TV movie Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story. The Skids include Tyler Johnston (Supernatural) and Alexander De Jordy (19-2).
No air date has been set for the series, which is expected to shoot until the end of June.
