Vodafone chiefs apologise for ‘boss with See You Jimmy hat and Irn-Bru snap’ as Scots staff face the axe

The stunt came as the telecoms giant today tells 360 workers in Glasgow which of them will have to relocate to England or face redundancy

MOBILE chiefs have apologised over claims a boss posed in a See You Jimmy hat on a company social media page — 24 hours before hundreds of Scots staff face the axe.

The Vodafone manager, based down south, was also snapped clutching a bottle of Irn-Bru.

The stunt came as the telecoms giant today tells 360 workers in Glasgow which of them will have to relocate to England or face redundancy.

Nats MSP Sandra White called the image “appalling” adding: “It’s insensitive and offensive.

Vodafone staff in Glasgow told to relocate to England or face losing jobs

“This ill-timed post shows a total disregard for the extremely serious situation that staff members and their families now face.”

A Vodafone UK spokesman “apologised unreservedly” adding: “It was an internal event. No offence was meant.”

Scots staff found out about the bombshell jobs news last month.

The workers were told the mobile giants will focus on three main centres in Manchester, London and Newbury in Berkshire.

The reshuffle means more than half of the customer service workforce based in Scotland would have to move down south or lose their jobs.

The company said the restructure aims to help them compete with other leading tech firms in the UK.

Vodafone said they will maintain a smaller team of staff to provide "specialist support" at bases in Glasgow, Newark and Stoke.

A spokesperson for the firm said at the time: "We recognise some employees will need to commute further and we are speaking to them individually about their specific circumstances to provide support and help them stay with us."
