“Katherine Havemeyer” is a deciduous shrub grown for its showy and fragrant flowers. Purple buds open from late spring through summer to reveal clusters of the double, light pink blooms which are both stunning and great for attracting butterflies. The foliage comprises dark green, heart-shaped leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows upright with a somewhat loose habit to about 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of light shade, short periods of dry, frost, and cool climates. “Katherine Havemeyer” is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, or grown as a flowering hedge.
