Islamic Mosaic Art Project with History Mini-lesson Slideshow

I use this art project as a culminating activity for our Islamic Civilization unit. Arabic art is renowned for its focus on geometric patterns and calligraphy. To create their artwork, students are provided with websites to explore various patterns for inspiration. They are also encouraged to incorporate their names translated into Arabic as the central element of their pattern. The complexity of the patterns can vary based on the individual student's preference/needs, ranging from intricate to simple designs.

This project serves as a great opportunity for students to take a brain break and simply have fun, as it does not require any external research. Included in the resources are clear directions, along with links to inspire students, and samples of artwork created by previous students. Also included is a teaching slideshow that focuses on the history, significance, and beauty of Islamic mosaics.
