Disabled musician determined to give back

Justin Hines understands what it takes to work through challenges. The Canadian singer/songwriter suffers from Larsen’s syndrome, a rare genetic joint disorder that causes him to permanently use a wheelchair.

Despite his health challenges, Hines will not be swayed from pursuing his musical career.

Hines, who has shared stages across the globe with performers such as The Canadian Tenors and Ron Sexsmith, has just released his fifth studio album entitled “How We Fly.”

In the spirit of giving back, Hines is currently undertaking his “Vehicle of Change” fundraising tour in support of various charities and non-profits across North America.

At each stop on his tour, Hines and special guests Ash & Bloom will perform a concert with proceeds going to support a local charity.

His tour costs are funded through PledgeMusic, a crowd-funding site which offers merchandise packages in exchange for donations.

Hines’ tour will arrive in Sudbury Aug. 17. The Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation has been selected as the local charity which will benefit from Justin’s concert.

The organizations has been providing memorable camping experiences for close to 15,000 abused and disadvantaged children of the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts since 1984.

“We feel incredibly humbled and privileged to have been chosen as a charity of choice by an artist of Justin’s calibre,” said Tanya Tuohimaa, Marketing and Events Director of the Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation, in a press release

“The foundation encourages the community to come out and enjoy the positive and inspiring message that Justin’s music brings. The concert comes at the perfect time, as the SMCF is working hard to raise funds to send all 110 children on their waiting list to summer camp.”

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Lockerby Legion, located at 2200 Long Lake Road. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and signed copies of Justin’s new album will be available for purchase.

Fans of all ages are invited and admission is free with donations to the Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation being gratefully accepted.
