Mariko Izumi - Mariko is well known as the host of the Outdoor Channel / World Fishing Network’s flagship production, Hookin’ Up. As the daughter of Wayne Izumi and the niece of Bob Izumi, it is her experiences with the family fishing show, Real Fishing that brought her across America and around the world from a young age, doing everything from bass fishing in Japan to salmon fishing off of the coast of British Columbia.

Mariko Izumi - Mariko is well known as the host of the Outdoor Channel / World Fishing Network’s flagship production, Hookin’ Up.   • How Long Have Sturgeon Been Around For? Sturgeon are constantly referenced as living dinosaurs, since they have been around for over 200 million years!

  • How Old Can Sturgeons Live? Males can live up to 50 - 60 years old and females can live up to 150 years old!

  • How Big Can Sturgeons Get? Sturgeons can grow up to 20 feet / 6 meters long. View the largest White Sturgeon ever caught in British Columbia on the Fraser River.

  • What Do Sturgeons Eat? Sturgeons eat shellfish, crustaceans, crayfish, worms, fish eggs, and other small or dead fish. They can go for months without eating and they use their strong sense of smell to find food in the murky water.

  • Where Do Sturgeons Live? Sturgeons can live in freshwater and saltwater! They can live in Rivers, Lakes and even the ocean! The ones that we fish and monitor are located in the Fraser River of British Columbia.

  • What Are Sturgeon Barbels? Sturgeon barbels are whisker-like organs that dangle under their snout and close to their mouth. These organs help sturgeons locate food in dark water.

  • When Do Sturgeon Spawn? Sturgeons do not start spawning until they are 15 - 25 years old. Even after they reach maturity, sturgeon will only spawn under the right conditions and will sometimes only spawn every 4 years.

  • Can You Fish For Sturgeon In B.C.? Yes! But sturgeon fishing in British Columbia is catch and release only. The Sturgeon population is protected and monitored. If you choose to book a guided fishing trip with us, you will participate in the Sturgeon Monitoring and Assessment Tagging Program which helps preserve our dinosaurs and gain insight into the world’s best sturgeon fishery.

The Fraser River is the longest river in British Columbia. It is well known for the fishing of white sturgeon, salmon, and steelhead trout.

The Fraser River begins at Fraser Pass near Blackrock Mountain in the Rocky Mountains, and flows 1,375 kilometres / 854 miles), into the Strait of Georgia which is just south of Vancouver.

We can customize an 8-hour guided trip for Sturgeon and we are only an hour and a half from Vancouver, British Columbia. Depending on your group’s size, we can offer one boat for a smaller fishing group or multiple boats for a larger group. We can even customize a trip to be more exciting for kids by fishing for smaller, more active juvenile sturgeon, or if you want, we can go after the monster sturgeon of the Fraser. The choice is up to you!
