Canucks’ Weise faces hearing for Hall hit

Vancouver Canucks' Dale Weise faces a hearing with the NHL after delivering a suspect hit to the head of the Edmonton Oilers' Taylor Hall.

Vancouver Canucks forward Dale Weise will have a telephone hearing with the NHL’s department of player safety Monday to discuss the illegal check he delivered to the head of Edmonton Oilers centre Taylor Hall.

Because Weise’s hearing will be conducted over the phone, his potential punishment will be limited to a suspension of four games or fewer.

At 6:52 of the first period of the Oilers’ 5-2 victory at Rexall Place on Saturday, Weise was given a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head of Hall.

“I have to have my head up… probably a mistake on both parts,” Hall told reporters after the game.

In the same game, fellow Oilers centre Sam Gagner had his jaw broken when he was high-sticked by the Canucks’ Zack Kassian. For his actions, Kassian is also facing an NHL hearing Monday for his actions.
