MISHAWAKA —  If you've noticed the buildings on the corner of Mishawaka Avenue and Main Street being demolished this week and wonder what's to come, the answer is unclear.

The properties, at 102 and 130 E. Mishawaka Ave., once housed businesses such as Kalon Hair Lab and Leather Banana. A neighboring building that held Violi Shoes at 118 E. Mishawaka Ave., was also demolished in August.

According to property records, the buildings along Mishawaka Avenue are owned by Mishawaka Property Investments. INOVA Federal Credit Union Executive Vice President John Katalinich is listed as the registered agent for the business.

Katalinich didn't respond to a call Wednesday about plans for the property. INOVA currently has a location nearby at 121 E. Grove St.

Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood said in a tweet Monday the demolition was not a city project and the property owners didn't need city permission to move forward with the demolition. Wood also said the city has heard of a new development but "nothing proposed yet. Stay tuned."  City planner Ken Prince confirmed Wednesday that future plans had not yet been filed.

The neighboring building to those razed this week houses HomeTown Pharmacy, formerly known as Merrill Pharmacy, which is owned by Marc Merrill and remains standing. The pharmacy business is still operational and an employee said there are no plans to move or expand.
