Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska is through to the quarter-finals on home soil at the BNP Paribas Katowice Open.
The world No 3, who is playing her first WTA tournament in Poland in seven years, defeated Francesca Schiavone 6-4 6-3.
Radwanska did not have things all her own way against the former French Open champion and trailed 4-2 in the first set before winning seven of the next eight games.
The Pole told wtatennis.com: "Francesca already showed that she's in great form here in Katowice when she dropped just two games in her first-round match.
"I expected a tough battle from start to finish, and I got exactly what I expected. She moved so well today that I had to show my best tennis to beat her. I'm really happy I managed to close out the match in straight sets."
In the last eight Radwanska will play sixth seed Yvonne Meusburger, who defeated Mirjana Lucic-Baronie 6-2 6-3.
Fourth seed Alize Cornet was given a tough time by qualifier Kristina Kucova before coming through 6-3 4-6 6-3 while seventh seed Magdalena Rybarikova thumped Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-2 6-0.
