I started painting this in 2018 but never… finished it to my liking and the events of 2020 has caused me to rethink the past and the things I enjoyed in my youth. I decided to revisit this painting. The political satire of MAD is prevelant now more than ever. I think that we currently live in a parody of society. We use humour and satire to exaggerate the things in soceity that annoy us, it helps bring these things to the fore and highlight what we believe is wrong.

« I paint because, like me, everyone has spaces and gaps in their stories where good things should be but aren’t. »
Kevin Gavaghan is an artist based in the United Kingdom whose works have been exhibited nationally. His paintings portray the psychological feelings and emotions that manifest from the subconscious as a result of living in a modern society while simultaneously thinking of the past. Gavaghan likens his style to contemporary baroque surrealism. Using oils, he twists and deforms the human figure, almost to the point of total abstraction, bringing them to life with bold colors.
