How Kate Beckinsale looks half her age at 50: the Underworld actress and mum-of-1 works out, eats clean, stays out of the sun – and has never had Botox or fillers

Kate Beckinsale is living proof that age really is just a number.

In fact, at 50, she could easily be mistaken for a 30-year-old. Her 24-year-old actress daughter, Lily Mo Sheen (who she shares with ex Michael Sheen) could pass for her sister.

However, while some stars end up resorting to cosmetic procedures and embarking on “fad” diets to achieve evermore youthful complexions, it appears the secret to Beckinsale’s success lies in not overthinking things. “I don’t actually think about it [her age] that much,” the Underworld actress told People in 2021.

With her flawless skin, fit physique, and an appearance that has remained unchanged for decades, the Pearl Harbour star continues to defy the ageing process – and to do it gracefully: she stands out as one of the few individuals who confidently and politely shuts down her trolls on social media.

She’s still making a splash at high-profile events, including Leonardo DiCaprio’s recent 49th birthday bash, where she rubbed shoulders with the likes of Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Salma Hayek, and the newly engaged Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz.

The actress turned heads on arrival in a bedazzled LBD with towering platforms and a matching black bag.

Here’s what you need to know about Beckinsale’s ever-youthful regime.

Exercise regularly

Beckinsale stays committed to her fitness routine. Per News24, she goes to the gym six times a week. In an interview with Women’s Health, she shared that she always starts with a full body workout comprising eight different compound exercises, before moving onto cardio.

Eating clean

In a 2018 interview with Delish, Beckinsale said that she tries to avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates because they tend to make her feel “very sluggish”. She also told Shape that she used to be a vegetarian until she realised she “didn’t have enough energy” when filming Pearl Harbour.

“The trainer I was working with at the time said ‘You’ve got to start eating chicken and fish.’ So I did, and that helped me,” she told the publication.

Staying out of the sun

Suncare has always been an important part of Beckinsale’s routine. “I didn’t see sun for the first several decades of my life and that’s probably been a big help,” she told People, “A great deal of it was geography [growing up in England], but the other thing was on the very rare occasions when we would go on a family vacation somewhere hot, I was paranoid that I would get freckles in a moustache formation on my face. So I was wearing Factor 70 [SPF]. I just didn’t want a moustache, that’s really why I used sunscreen.”

No Botox, no surgery

The British actress has had to shut down rumours around her having undergone surgery to look as flawless as she does. On Instagram, she responded to one netizen who asked if she had a facelift. Beckinsale wrote, “No threads, no thread lift, no Botox, no laser, no nose job, no filler. I do have facials with PRP to boost collagen and microcurrent for skin tightening and oxygen. I probably would try laser but I’m a bit scared. Haven’t so far.”

In another comment she wrote, “I haven’t had a facelift or filler or Botox. I’m not lying and I don’t have to accept people accusing me of things I haven’t done.”

Don’t obsess about age

Perhaps one of her best tricks is to not think about it too much.

“I think about it because people ask me about it, but I don’t think I would [otherwise]. Things haven’t started to fall off yet, and I haven’t had crazy hormone changes. [Those are coming] down the road, and I’m sure that will make me think about it much more. But, at the moment, nothing feels wildly different than it has for a while,” she once told People.

Her genetics have also helped, of course

There’s no doubt that Beckinsale hit the genetic jackpot. She told People, “I’m really lucky, my mum’s got really good skin.”

She added, “I think obviously some of it is a genetic thing, although you can mess that up.”
