Kari Lehtonen injury: Stars goaltender day-to-day

Dallas recalled Jack Campbell from the Texas Stars to back up Dan Ellis on Saturday.

Dallas Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen is day-to-day after suffering a lower-body injury in Friday's contest against the Winnipeg Jets, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.

Lehtonen was injured during the second period against the Jets and was replaced in net by Dan Ellis. Ellis stopped 22 of 23 shots to help the Stars to a 4-1 win. Lehtonen has battled groin injuries throughout his career.

The Stars haven't disclosed specifics about Lehtonen's injury, but they have recalled goaltender Jack Campbell from the AHL's Texas Stars to back up Dan Ellis on Saturday on an emergency basis. Dan Ellis was scheduled to start against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday anyways since it is the second game of a back-to-back. Campbell, a rookie, has not seen any game action in the NHL since he was drafted 10th overall in 2010.

Depending on how long Lehtonen is out, this injury could be bad news for the Stars. Lehtonen has been one of the better goaltenders in the NHL when he's been healthy, posting a 2.51 goals against average and a .917 save percentage over the last three seasons in Dallas while enduring some of the highest shots against totals in the league.
