The Reno Air Races are gone, but there will still be an air show next year at the Reno-Stead Airport.

Fred Telling, CEO and chairman of the Reno Air Racing Association, told the RGJ that the Royal Canadian Air Force's Snowbirds, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the USAF F-16 Viper team will perform Oct. 4-6 at the Stead Airport.

Telling, who is at the International Council of Air Shows in Las Vegas this week, said the military released it schedule for air shows for the next two years on Tuesday and Reno is on their list.

Telling said the Snowbird team has not been in Reno since 2007.

He said more performances could be added, including possibly a parachute team, but added that the Thunderbirds team is scheduled to be in Huntington Beach, California, during the week of the Reno Air Show.

"We'll have a very exciting collection of both aerobatic and warbird and other packs," Telling said.

He said the RARA is hoping to schedule a twilight performance on Friday night during the event.

"We want to make this a super exciting event," Telling said. "We know we won't have racing, but we're excited to make the 60th anniversary show a great way to cap off the history of our presence in Reno, celebrate what's been done in the past and bid our fond farewell to the community the best way we can: by putting on a great air show."

More details on the show and ticket information will be announced at a later date. Telling said he hopes to have that information by later in December or January.

He said the RARA did not want the air racing event to end.

"We're not trying to disrespect RTA (Reno-Tahoe Airport). The truth is we're not leaving Reno because we had a choice. We love the community; we're sorry we had to go," Telling said. "I want to make certain we close out the show in the best of all ways. We really value the community."
