Giuseppe Penone
Born in 1947 in Italy. Lives and works in Turin and Paris.
Giuseppe Penone is associated with the Arte Povera movement. From his very first works, he investigated and employed organic and natural elements, which he often reworked. Since then, he has created sculptures, installations, and photographs that are often placed in public and private spaces allowing him to express their monumental characteristics. In 2000, his Vowel Tree was installed in the sculpture park at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris. The Centre Pompidou showed a retrospective of his work in 2004 and he represented Italy in 2007 at the Venice Biennale. A European artist celebrated worldwide, he participated in Documenta 2012 in Cassel and was guest artist at the Palais de Versailles in spring 2013.
