Vote up the Iron Man armor that you would totally save the world in.

Nerd hero and luckiest man on Earth Robert Downey Jr., breathed life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe way back in 2008 with his inaugural performance as Tony Stark. In Iron Man, Tony created the Mark I suit under significant duress with few resources, which is why it looked like a walking trash compactor. Since then, though, all of Iron Man's suits have grown increasingly baller (including the one he gifted to Rhodey, who qualifies as one of the luckiest MCU characters).

So, just how many suits does Iron Man have in the MCU? Forty-six. Forty-six freaking suits! Now, only 30 of those awesome, mind-blowing suits of armor in Iron Man's arsenal have been fed to our glistening eyeballs over the course of RDJ's six appearances in the MCU, as most of the Iron Legion was destroyed in Iron Man 3 without real screen time. To see all of the Iron Man armors, you would normally throw on your pjs, sink into your couch, and watch roughly 15 hours of film footage. Since no one has that kind of time, the suits are all assembled here for your viewing and voting pleasure.

    Mark III

    Mark III
Photo: Iron Man / Paramount Pictures

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk III
Special Properties: This is Tony's first weaponized suit outfitted with various sub-armor weapons, and affording the RT (Repulsor Technology) chest piece the unibeam capability—a powerful attack that transforms light into physical energy—with the same capability given to the flight stimulators on the palms of the suit. The Mk III sports the iconic red and gold color scheme and is upgraded to a titanium/gold alloy to fix the icing problem in the Mk II. Remember your elation when he first donned it? Oh, that was magical. The Mk III technically appeared in Iron Man 3 as it was destroyed in the Mandarin's attack, but we'll only count movies in which the suits were active.

    Mark VII

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk VII
Special Properties: Like the Mk V, this armor does not require a gantry system to apply, instead using lasers that identify and couple with totes adorbs wristlets worn by Tony, initiating a similar auto-equip function as seen in The Avengers when Loki throws Tony out of his own building. It has additional thrusters on the back, calves, feet, chest, knees, and toes (knees and toes). It's equipped with 90+ high-explosive micromissiles, two tri-barreled laser modules, an anti-armor missile, and upgraded plasma chargers, which increase repulsor rates.

    Hulkbuster (Mark XLIV)

    Hulkbuster (Mark XLIV)
Photo: Avengers: Age of Ultron / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Official Armor Name: Hulkbuster (or Veronica)
Special Properties: If you thought Hammerhead was going through a midlife crisis, prepare yourself for this 'roid monster. Mk XLIV was designed to take on the Hulk (as is rather self-explanatory). Hulkbuster has improved strength, a grappling hook, a jackhammer fist (which provides the hilarious "Go to sleep" scene), and a chemical spray. It is stored on a satellite and deployed when Tony activates the "Veronica" protocol, an homage to Archie Comics. (Bruce Banner dates a woman named Betty in the comics, the same name of a character in Archie Comics, which also touts a character named Veronica. It's a rather loose thread.)

    Mark VI

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk VI
Special Properties: The Mark VI is an upgrade of the Mark IV, and the first to sport a triangular chest piece containing the new vibranium-powered Arc Reactor. This suit offers an all-around upgrade to the flight and weapons systems, including mini wrist-rockets and a palladium-powered laser system on the back of each hand that cuts through anything like a hot knife through butter. The Mark VI is the first to withstand submersion in water, but was, once again, ultimately destroyed in the Mandarin's attack.

    Mark XLVI

    Mark XLVI
Photo: Captain America: Civil War / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk XLVI
Special Properties: Mk XLVI sports yet another new design, once again making red the primary color, but debuting a new trapezoidal RT chest piece containing the Arc Reactor. It has a few new weapons: it can shoot electricity and a paralytic out of the hands. One of its coolest features is its collapsible helmet, which replaces the ho-hum garage-door face plate. In one of the most bad ass scenes of the MCU, Captain America destroys this suit by crushing the Arc Reactor in the climactic fight of Civil War. So, will Tony make a new suit for his next appearance? Yeah. Obviously. Stupid question, guys.

Autonomous Prehensile Propulsion Suit (Mark XLII)

Official Armor Name: Autonomous Prehensile Propulsion Suit
Special Properties: Mk XLII is Tony's primary suit in Iron Man 3, so you'd think he could give it a name. Its color scheme is essentially a reverse of the original designs, with gold being the primary color and red the secondary. This suit has all the bells and whistles: a built-in self-repair system, all-around state-of-the-art weaponry upgrades, and a plasma-penetration unibeam that allows it to penetrate solid objects. It also utilizes similar technology to Bones, with the added feature of corresponding microchips implanted in Tony that allow him to control the suit through his nervous system and call it to him where it can equip piece-by-piece. This is how he escaped the Mandarin's compound in Iron Man 3.

    Mark XLIII

    Mark XLIII
Photo: Avengers: Age of Ultron / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk XLIII
Special Properties: Mk XLIII is a very similar structural design to Mk XLII except that it's the first suit with a built-in Arc Reactor as Tony had his surgically removed at the end of Iron Man 3, prompting viewers everywhere to ask, "Why didn't he do that earlier?" It swapped the color scheme back, making red the primary color again. Mk XLIII has a "Sentry" mode, allowing J.A.R.V.I.S. to take remote control of it. In case you're confused, it's the one in the foreground of the picture.

    Heartbreaker (Mark XVII)

    Official Armor Name: Heartbreaker
Special Properties: Heartbreaker is named for its giant chest repulsor that allows for a stronger blast than its predecessors. The unibeam can also fire faster out of that bulky bosom, made so large by stacked titanium plating and a tendency to skip leg days.

    Mark XLV

    Mark XLV
Photo: Avengers: Age of Ultron / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk XLV
Special Properties: Mk XLV replaces Mk XLIII as Tony's primary suit in Age of Ultron after the latter is heavily damaged. Save for a new design and color scheme—more red, hearkening back to the OG suit—this suit is very similar to Mk XLIII. The main difference is that it is the first to integrate the new AI F.R.I.D.A.Y. after J.A.R.V.I.S. becomes the Vision.

    Silver Centurion (Mark XXXIII)

    Official Armor Name: Silver Centurion
Special Properties: Mk XXXIII is, not surprisingly, one of the Centurion armors, and thus has vibranium blades in its arms, making it virtually no different from Blue Steel, other than not looking as cool. An Extremis-enhanced Killian shoves his hand through the Centurion's chest, ripping out its arc reactor a la Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber

    Mark IV

    Mark IV
Photo: Iron Man 2 / Paramount Pictures

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk IV
Special Properties: The Mk IV is just an improved version of the Mk III, with the added feature that the unibeam's intensity can be controlled. It also excels at the "Superhero Landing" beloved by Deadpool, even mitigating the harmful effects on the knees that normally renders the maneuver impractical.

    Mark V

    Mark V
Photo: Iron Man 2 / Paramount Pictures

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk V
Special Properties: The Mk V is extremely light and transportable, stored in a briefcase and made up of individual plates that quickly form together around Tony to oppose an immediate threat, like that of Mickey Rourke playing a Russian super villain. Yet another casualty of the Mandarin's attack in Iron Man 3.

    Striker (Mark XXV)

Official Armor Name: Striker (or Thumper)
Special Properties: Striker is so named for the jackhammer-like attachments to its arms, which it uses to pulverize dense objects like rock, concrete, or Gronk. It can also withstand high temperatures and electrical surges, not unlike Gronk.

    Blue Steel (Mark XXX)

    Official Armor Name: Blue Steel
Special Properties: Mk XXX is one of the Centurion suits identified by retractable blades that extend from the back of the hands for close range combat. Its unibeam is triangular due to the shape of its Arc Reactor. In another life, Blue Steel was a successful, albeit stupid, model.

    Bones (Mark XLI)

    Official Armor Name: Bones
Special Properties: Mk XLI is a skeleton suit: very streamlined with minimal armor and its internal components exposed. This design, however, allows for extreme speed, flexibility, and armor separation, a technique it uses in the final battle of Iron Man 3 to bombard a number of baddies at once. Bones is multitalented, as well, moonlighting as a forensics expert.

    Mark II

    Mark II

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk II
Special Properties: This is a flight test suit, debuting the innovative aerodynamic design that became the basis for all subsequent suits. It was originally not weaponized until Rhodey beat the crap out of Tony in Iron Man 2, stole it, and brought it to Justin Hammer, who outfitted it with a host of weapons, creating the first War Machine armor.

    Igor (Mark XXXVIII)

    Official Armor Name: Igor
Special Properties: Mk XXXVIII is a heavy-lifting suit with super strength and a bit of a hunchback (hence its name) as its "Spine Lifter" protrudes from its back over its head. This is essentially a retractable support beam that helps stabilize large objects, allowing Igor to carry heavy objects. Similarly, Igor's arms have pressure supporters, further allowing Igor to handle large objects. Looks like Red Snapper isn't out of luck after all.

    Gemini (Mark XXXIX)

Official Armor Name: Gemini (or Starboost)
Special Properties: Mk XXXIX is a sub-orbital suit that can withstand the radiation, cold temperatures, and lack of oxygen in space (with the addition of an oxygen tank). This suit boasts a very sleek white-and-silver design with a gold helmet by Christian Dior. Its weapons system is very basic, prompting Blue Steel to once hurtfully remark, "You basic b*tch!"

    Hammerhead (Mark XXXVII)

    Official Armor Name: Hammerhead
Special Properties: Mk XXXVII is a deep-sea diving suit able to withstand high pressure and submersion in water; it can travel at high speeds in the deep. Its sea-green color is appropriate for its function. Its base design is the Mk X, just beefed up with more plating and repulsors on the abdomen, like a middle-aged guy gulping Nugenix after a divorce. The bulking up part... not the repulsors.

    Hot Rod (Mark XXII)

    Official Armor Name: Hot Rod
Special Properties: Hot Rod is actually a prototype of the War Machine Mk II armor, if that's not too confusing. It's named for its red-and-black design with flame decals taken right off a suped-up Ford Pinto from The Fast and Furious. Hot Rod tried to save Tony in the final battle of Iron Man 3, but was batted aside like a shuttlecock.

    Red Snapper (Mark XXXV)

    Official Armor Name: Red Snapper
Special Properties: Mk XXXV has dual retractable claws. These pneumatic pinchers were originally designed for disaster relief, used to extricate people from rubble. It is much larger and stronger than most of the other Iron Legion armors due to its heavy gauge gold-titanium plates. Also, self-gratification is an extremely risky proposition for it.

    Shotgun (Mark XL)

    Official Armor Name: Shotgun
Special Properties: Mk XL is a hyper-velocity suit, evidenced by its angular face plate that provides more aerodynamics. Shotgun is seen here blasting on a fool. Unfortunately, it was a little premature as Killian later dismembered, then bisected poor little Mk XL.

    Mark IX?

Official Armor Name: Iron Man Armor Mk IX
Special Properties: Here's where things start to get hairy. Much of the Iron Legion is on display in Iron Man 3, but not all of it, and some of the suits are quite hard to make out. Mk IX is the second armor of the Iron Legion and is very similar to the Mk VIII. Thus the debate about whether this even is Mk IX, or if it's, in fact, the Mk VIII. Whichever it is, its claim to fame is that it tried to kill Pepper Potts at the end of Iron Man 3, but (un)fortunately she had successfully imbibed Extremis and was able to punch through the armor, rip its arm off, and use the repulsor to blast Aldrich Killian to smithereens in the biggest eye-roll scene of the entire MCU.

    Nightclub (Mark XVI)

    Peacemaker (Mark XXXVI)

    Official Armor Name: Peacemaker
Special Properties: Mk XXXVI is based entirely on Mk XXXV's design with the subtraction of the claws as the suit was meant for riot control, which is best achieved without the use of ribcage-crushing claws. Only Peacemaker's sweet behind is visible in Iron Man 3, but that's enough for us.

    Sneaky (Mark XV)

    Official Armor Name: Sneaky
Special Properties: Finally, a freaking name! Mk XV is the first suit to be named, nicknamed Sneaky for its stealth properties. It has a cloaking system that demands most of the suit's power, so it is less weaponized. Believe it or not, this is the best shot of Sneaky in the film (on the left).

    Official Armor Name: Piston
Special Properties: Mk XXXI is a high-speed Centurion suit, one of the fastest suits period, second only to the Mk XL. Piston gets torn apart by Extremis soldiers, marking one of the most tragic endings for any members of the Iron Legion. But it has no soul, nor can it feel pain, so it's not that bad.

    Disco (Mark XXVII)

    Official Armor Name: Disco
Special Properties: Somehow the tacky blue-and-orange design of this suit gives it chameleon-like camouflage capabilities, even though it's named for an object that is virtually impossible to not see. That being said, it is quite difficult to spot in Iron Man 3 (on the right).
