Conceived in Japan, Chindogu is the idea of inventing something that has no practical purpose. The inventions are often silly and funny, as they will solve a problem but in an extremely unpractical way. Examples include shoes that double as feet umbrellas, or even a pair of chopsticks with a fan attached to cool your ramen as you eat it. True Chindogu inventions are never patented; they remain in the public domain forever.
